I recently presented a session at the Learning Technologies 2013 conference titled Addressing the BYOD challenge. The session discussed BYOD from the perspective of Learning & Development professionals and looked at both the challenges and the huge opportunities that the widespread adoption of mobile phone and tablets among the workforce offers.

There’s little doubt that the “Bring Your own Device” or BYOD trend is making a huge impact in the business world with a majority of employees already using their own devices at work to one …

The post Addressing the BYOD challenge appeared first on CM Group.

I’ve discussed it in previous posts, but to recap, Luminosity Reader is a corporate communications and learning App for the iPad. Using the App, you can push content including HTML5 eLearning courses, Web content, videos, PDF files and more to your audience via a native iPad App. Users can consume the content while online or offline and usage analytics are captured and recorded.

In addition to various performance updates and minor bug fixes, version 3 includes the following:

In my view, the potential for what it has to offer is huge. Tin Can promises to address many of the shortcomings associated with existing SCORM standards that are now over 10 years old and as the Rustici Web site puts it “The Tin Can API fuses a decade of collective e-learning experiences with a decade of …

The post Thoughts on Tin Can and the future of eLearning appeared first on CM Group.

Way back when (OK, it was only a few years ago), when talking about mobile learning or mLearning, we were generally thinking of delivering “training” to smartphones and PDAs. When I say “training” I’m not talking about fully fledged online training courses – you couldn’t possibly study one of those on a phone – right?! – but I am talking about bite sized training nuggets, videos, audio podcasts and so on – the types …

The post Realising the Potential of Mobile Learning appeared first on CM Group.

The Flash vs HTML5 for eLearning debate took another interesting turn last week with the announcement that Adobe is to stop developing its mobile Flash player. The writing has been on the wall for some time with Microsoft recently following Apple, Google and a string of other high profile IT vendors in throwing their weight behind HTML5, and announcing that their future Windows 8 tablet browser would be plug-in free and would not run Flash (or Silverlight for that matter). The rationale for these decisions and the arguments and debates between companies and individuals in the pro-Flash and pro-HTML5 camps …

The post Flash and HTML5 for eLearning appeared first on CM Group.

In summary, the four models that I covered are:

It’s becoming increasingly clear that many organisations are seriously considering buying iPads for their employees. According to the latest statistics, upto 20% of iPads sold are for corporate use. Also, figures announced by Apple recently, indicate that over 90% of the Fortune 500 companies are currently deploying or piloting the iPad. So if you’ve not already thought about delivering eLearning content to an iPad, the chances are it won’t be long before you do.
